Hard research confirms that reading to children may break this cycle and improve their chances of success in life. Reach Out and Read is a national school readiness organization that helps spread this crucial message. The program provides every child 6 months through 5 years old with a new, developmentally-appropriate children’s book to take home and enjoy. Our doctors and nurses speak with parents about the importance of reading aloud to their young children every day.

Anyone who claims these differences vanish at the schoolhouse door is either horribly misled (and gullible.) or they are trying to mislead. Check their motives and follow the money.

A. Give writing tests, interviews, and background checks. Admission to the college of education should be tougher than any department, after all teachers are going to be dealing with CHILDREN – THE FUTURE – OUR FUTURE.

Now sleepless nights of students and parents before class X exams are not needed. Students will enjoy the studies with semesters for continuous testing of the development of students.

J.C.:The best part is forecasting where I grew up and being in an environment where the weather is always changing. New Englanders LOVE talking about the weather, good or bad. The most difficult part is forecasting in an environment where the weather is always changing! We have marine and mountain influences that can make forecasting quite a challenge.

What I propose is that any group of people who can articulate a sound system for educating our children should be able to access public funds to do so, so that all children can have access to many choices. The charter system addresses this partially. The biggest issues are: a) a preset curriculum in the form of state standards, which mean a charter school still cannot entirely allow children to develop knowledge and skills through their passions, and b) state testing mandates which mean that even when a school does manage to allow students choice in what they are learning about, they ALL must still be on the exact same page on the exact same day in all the tested subjects.

IPS Superintendent Eugene White is the gift that keeps on giving. He penned a letter criticizing David Harris of the Mind Trust because of Harris’ position on education reform. Just a couple years back, White was praising Harris and the mind Trust for their efforts. What a difference calls for accountability can make.

The So what? The ‘so-what’ is that the lowest SAT for admittance to the University of Illinois is 1610. 1277 ain’t cutting it. The universal reaction from elected black officials, apologetic black educators, and guilt-ridden black parents, or more realistically, single mothers is: Racism. They declare the SAT is biased. You know what? It probably is. It is biased toward students who can read and write well and who take an algebra class before they have a child out of wedlock. But then colleges, grad schools, and corporations are biased as well. Life is biased, job competition is intense, get over it.
